The reason for the weathering of caustic soda flakes
As a commonly used product, caustic soda plays a very important role in our daily lives.Regular users should know that the product is prone to weathering in the air,so the container for storing caustic soda must be sealed. How to prevent weathering, let's take a look next.
1.Loss of crystalline water:In fact, weathering is a chemical process. In daily life, the change from the alkali prone area to the alkali prone surface is the phenomenon of weathering.Sodium carbonate will first be weathered, losing its crystalline water and turning into sodium carbonate.
2.Sodium bicarbonate:Its formation is due to the fact that sodium carbonate becomes moist in the air, reacts with CO2 contained in the air,and then generates sodium bicarbonate. The equation is:Na2CO3+H2O+CO2=2 NaHCO3;Na2CO3.10H2O=Na2CO3+10H2O。The phenomenon of crystalline hydrates losing their crystalline water when heated is not called weathering, but actually called dehydration.
During the process of alkali weathering, due to the characteristics of crystal structure and the influence of external conditions, some crystals only lose some crystal water, some crystals can lose all crystal water, and some crystals first lose some crystal water and then gradually lose all crystal water. It can be seen that weathering is not necessarily the loss of all crystalline water. So there are sodium carbonate decahydrate, sodium carbonate heptahydrate, and sodium carbonate monohydrate.
